BIO & BIO-MIMETIC ENG.
Bio-mimetic Engineering includes the area in which one obtains certain ideas from nature and applies them to engineering problems. The concept itself is quite old, but vigorous development and effort have been made very recently.
We are conducting the following researches in this area:
- Reduction of the skin friction & form drag based on the surface structures
- Enhancement of the aerodynamic performance based on wing morphologies
- Reduction of the skin friction & form drag based on overall body configurations
Reduction of the skin friction & form drag based on the surface structures
- Riblet (Shark)
- Fastest fish skin (Sailfish)
- Compliant wall (Dolphin)
- Superhydrophobic surface & Liquid-infused surface
- Transverse grooves & Spines
Riblet (Shark)
: To apply the shark skin on the reduction of skin friction/form drag, and investigate the effect of the yaw angle.
Fastest fish skin (Sailfish)
: To apply the sailfish skin on the reduction of skin friction/form drag.
Compliant wall (Dolphin)
: To certify the possibility and draw the mechanism of the skin friction reduction using a compliant wall.
Superhydrophobic surface (lotus leaf) & Liquid-infused surface (Nepenthes pitcher plant)
: To investigate the drag reduction capabilities of the SHSs and LISs
Transverse grooves & Spines (Saguaro cactus)
: To certify the possibility and draw the mechanism of form drag reduction using transverse grooves and spines of the saguaro cactus.
